February Roundup: What happens when you combine these 2 things?
"Innovation is taking two things that already exist and putting them together in a different way." ~ Tom Freston
Do you agree?
This month’s roundup highlights how two different things join together to make something stronger, better, or more impactful for your healthcare business and the people you serve.
Let’s get to it!
Black Perspectives + Better Healthcare Outcomes
In honor of Black History Month, we’re looking at how the contributions of Black founders, healthcare advocates, and investors are changing the Future for under-represented, under-served, and under-invested communities.
On the podcast, we talked to The Darkest Horse cofounders Chanté Martínez Thurmond and Rada Yovovich about embedding diversity and inclusion into both product and culture in the digital health space. (And don’t miss episode 16’s discussion with Circulo Health’s Dr. Vik Bakhru on avoiding algorithmic bias and worsening health inequities in ML/AI technologies).
On the website, find our first annual Invest in Black Founders list, which also links to the excellent work and resources from Kathryne Cooper, MBA, and her colleagues for the California Health Care Foundation. (Stay tuned: she’s coming on the Decoding Healthcare Innovation Podcast soon!)
The White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) has extended the deadline for comments on its Strengthening Community Health Through Technology RFI to March 31 (the deadline was Feb 28 originally). This request presents an opportunity for digital health companies like yours to showcase how your technology can be used to address disparities in healthcare. The more we can help the Administration understand the opportunities around digital health, the further we advance policy initiatives that will bring these innovations front and center for patients everywhere. Miami Beach + Nixon Gwilt Law
If you’re going to ViVE2022 in Miami Beach next month, we want to meet up with you! Click here to register for our happy hour on Monday evening at The Gale and meet Carrie, Rebecca, and Kaitlyn in person. Since it turned out so well at HLTH in Boston, we’ve again teamed up with Beracah Stortvedt of MarshMcLennan, a national leader in providing insurance solutions to innovative healthcare companies (esp. Digital Health!) to sponsor this can’t-miss event.
What is ViVE? ViVE merges the leadership of CHIME and the digital marketplace of HLTH to create a technology event focused on the business of healthcare systems. If you haven’t yet registered, you can get $150 off the admission price by using one of our links below. (Speaker perks!) We hope to see you there.
Femtech + Podcast
What better topic for our next podcast than FemTech? NGL femTech futurist Bethany Corbin, Esq., interviews insightful founders, investors, and innovators in the FemTech space and examines how to meet the healthcare needs of women at all stages of life. You’ll appreciate her expertise, influential guests, and infectious energy for this fast-growing segment of the digital health industry.

Telehealth + Pets
It didn’t take long for people to wonder why they couldn’t get the convenience of telehealth for their furry companions. While many people describe this innovative combination as Veterinary Telehealth, in our virtual office we call it #TelePet. And we’re ready to share what we’ve learned over the past couple of years serving this emerging market in our next webinar.
Reply to this email with your burning questions on all things #TelePet and Kaitlyn O’Connor, Esq., and Reema Taneja, Esq., will be sure to address them in this upcoming webinar (registration details in our next email).
Digital tools + Healthcare
Telemedicine becomes telehealth becomes virtual care, then adds virtual care management. No matter what terms we coin going forward, there is no doubt our healthcare is now permanently linked to digital tools.
This month we’re announcing the start of our LinkedIn newsletter with the very descriptive name of
With key law and policy changes from every state and the federal government, this resource will help every business engaged in virtual care services stay informed. You’ll love the easy-to-consume style of this TL;DR rundown of telehealth and virtual care management services law and policy changes.
Please make sure you’re following Carrie Nixon on LinkedIn so you’ll get the invitation to the inaugural edition next week!
And another jam-packed roundup comes to a close. We received some great replies from last month’s email—thank you! You can always reach us by replying to our emails. We value your feedback, ideas for future topics, and even lame jokes. (Especially dad jokes—those are the best.)
Thank you for the privilege of a place in your inbox. We don’t take your attention for granted and strive every month to bring you insights and news you can use to innovate in your corner of the industry.
Until next month (or in Miami!),
